The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Greater Bay Area) comprises the two Special Administrative Regions of Hong Kong and Macao, and the nine municipalities of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Huizhou, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen and Zhaoqing in Guangdong Province. the GBA will be comparable to the San Francisco Bay Area, Greater Tokyo Area and New York Metropolitan Area and will represent one of the largest urban areas both in size and population. It represents 15% of China’s national economy, generated by only 5% of the country's population. the GBA economy is expected to reach US$3.6 trillion by 2030. Among others, trade and logistics, financial services and R&D in innovative technologies will most likely benefit from the GBA ecosystem.
Nansha district is located in the southern part of Guangzhou right at the geometric center of the Greater Bay Area formed by Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Macao, Nansha is the hub connecting the city groups on the banks of the Pearl River Estuary.
The district has the world's top 12 ports and shipping hubs and top three shipbuilding bases, as well as China's leading automobile and parts manufacturing and export bases and advanced equipment industry, while focusing on the development of shipping logistics, international finance, international trade, science and technology innovation, marine economy and high-end manufacturing industries.
Nansha is also known for its scenic nature, with China’s first wetland forest park, now called "the kidney of Guangzhou", covered with mangrove forest and is home to more than 20,000 migratory birds in both autumn and winter.
